 HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!! (17TH MARCH 2021)

Due to the pandemic restrictions, we couldn't celebrate The National Day of Ireland at our school as it deserved, but we have devoted some time to approach our students to this celebration by working on this entertaining Edpuzzle:

Our students in the 3rd year of ESO also had the possibility to work with Amanda as she explained the enormous influence this celebration has in the United States, due to the arrival of Irish immigrants during the XIX century.

DID YOU KNOW THAT.....?

St. Patrick's Day, while originally a feast day for the patron saint who brought Christianity to Ireland, has evolved into a secular celebration of Irish heritage. As its reach has widened, many are familiar with the nickname "St. Paddy's Day," where "Paddy" is the shortened form of Patrick, which itself comes from Pádraig. While the holiday is sometimes spelled "St. Patty's Day," some find this to be offensive as "Patty" is a shortened form of the female name "Patricia." (FROM

MUSIC

St. Paddy's Day is a great day to celebrate the very best parts of Irish culture so why don't we do it with some Irish music? If you want to get into the St. Patrick's Day spirit, enjoy this traditional song called "Molly Malone" by "The Dubliners"and learn about the story behind it.

"Molly Malone" tells the tale of a fishmonger who sells "cockles and mussels” in the streets of Dublin. The song — which dates back to the 1800s — was even named the unofficial anthem of Dublin, where you can find a statue of Molly Malone herself!

What a great time to remember our last immersion trip to Ireland three years ago!!! I wish we can repeat it soon!!
