THANKSGIVING DAY (25TH NOVEMBER 2020)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!!!

This year we have been very fortunate to have our Language Assistant Amanda with us on this special day. She comes from the US, a country where Thanksgiving Day is a popular holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Using an audio-presentation for those groups who couldn't have a live lessson with her, she gave us a wonderful explanation about the origins of this celebration, linked to he colonial Pilgrims' 1621 harvest meal. She also told us about the typical dishes, customs, Black Friday, Macy's parade... We learnt loads of specific vocabulary and students had great fun through a set of communicative activities: Kahoot quizzes, watching sections of television shows where Thanksgiving has been present, a webquest...

Here is Amanda's presentation for those of you who didn't have the chance to listen to her in class:

Cultural facts and days' anniversaries in English-speaking countries are an excellent strategy to design communicative activities and motivate students at the same time.
If you are interested in organizing a lesson with your language assistant and celebrate this day, here is my lesson plan to organize your work with her/him.
